Cry of the Hunger Stones

SATB Choir

“The Cry of Hunger Stones” is my new composition for choir based upon recently uncovered climate markers along the Elba River between Germany and the Czech Republic in the town of Decin. The stones show low water marks of the river dating back as early as the 1500s. Paula and I spent a day with hydrologist Libor Elledor who has done an extensive study of these water marks. He and his team are comparing these marks with existing climate data, painting, literature, and other first hand accounts to create a complete picture of climate change in the last few centuries. Libor’s enthusiasm is infectious. He also loves music, so we had lots to talk about while examining these carved stones.
